DECEMBER BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

The Holidays are just around the corner, and the first book I’d like to recommend is that which talks about the gift of Grace.

As we approach the New Year and start creating new opportunities, skills and engage in new ventures, my other book recommendations are full of ideas and tactics that can assist with achieving these goals.

Grace of God – by Andy Stanley –  In this book, Andy Stanley explores how grace started with the creation of the world and continues throughout the Bible.  The familiar stories are presented through the lens of grace. This is a great book to read to enhance your biblical understanding of Grace and its illustration from the beginning.

Originals – By Adam Grant – Some of the interesting ideas discussed in this book are entrepreneurs’ beginnings, value of deliberate procrastination and the required output of ideas to generate that ‘one’ great idea.  He talks about Bill Gates dropping out of Harvard to begin Microsoft as a ‘leave of absence’ – a calculated risk, and Da Vinci’s procrastination resulting in newly accumulated skills that contributed to the greatness of Mona Lisa. This is a great book if you are looking to generate original ideas or are considering entrepreneurship.

Never Split the Difference – By Chris Voss – This book takes you inside the world of high-stakes negotiations and the mind of an FBI negotiator Chris Voss, revealing the skills that helped him to succeed where it mattered most: saving lives. This is a practical guide, which provides nine effective principles—counter-intuitive tactics and strategies—you can use to become more persuasive in both your professional and personal life. I highly recommend this book specifically if you are lacking negotiation experience but need to propel yourself forward! Great read!

American Dirt – By Jeanine Cummings – A mother and her little boy Luca hid themselves in the bathtub during the family massacre by the most dangerous drug lord and now they have to leave their comfortable life in Acapulco to stay alive. They become migrants to survive and encounter a tremendous journey where any mis-step can cause them their lives. A great story to read, to gain perspective on the challenges faced by our neighboring cultures and the difficulties endured by those fleeing. I highly recommend this enticing story!

I hope that you find at least one read and become as inspired as I have become!
